90 % Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache
There has never been a “cuvée parcellaire” at Pibarnon. My father insisted on it. He used to say to me: “You understand, the Grands Domaines only have one cuvée. Think of Trévallon, think of other great wines. We’re not going to multiply the labels on a single terroir”. He was right.
However, 2012 corresponds to the end of life for my parents, and the vintage was bottled just after their death.
Throughout the ageing process, Bel Air (the plot at the top of the hill) behaved majestically, with finesse and complexity, revealing all the magic of Pibarnon, as if my parents were winking at us from the estate’s emblematic plot.
So I was delighted to defy my father’s wishes and make 999 magnums of this wine, which we called Henri-Cath, in homage to Henri and Catherine, whom my father affectionately called Cath.
The family coat of arms naturally took the place of the star on the label.
